Dr. Chen Hongtian believed that the strategic plan to develop Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area by the Central Government was timely and necessary. Its aim is to strengthen collaboration among Pearl River Delta cities, Hong Kong and Macau to become one of the most important economic engines of China in the coming two to three decades. Guangdong Province currently is in a significant economic development phase, especially with the rapid development of the city cluster of Greater Bay Area. In the light of that, it is necessary for cities to go hand in hand to complement each other and to bring the right mix of competencies to facilitate the overall fast-paced development of “9+2″ cities in the Bay Area.

Cheung Kei Group Chairman Dr. Chen Hongtian makes remarks

Dr. Chen Hongtian explained with an example that cities like Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Jiangmen and Huizhou have their own advantages. But Shenzhen, a well-developed city, is in a leading position in high-tech innovation industries, in particular strategic emerging industries due to its pool of talents and sources of capital for innovation. Guangzhou, with a big pool of talents and deep-rooted traditional culture, has sufficient firepower for development. Jiangmen and Huizhou are equipped with good human resources while Dongguan is an open-minded city.

In his view, Hong Kong and Macau have strong strengths in the rule of law, financial services, administrative efficiency and information consultation in which other cities should learn from. These are the favorable conditions and foundation for the integration and development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area. For example, in the financial sector, other cities in the Greater Bay Area can learn the internationalized and convenient financing of Hong Kong. Hong Kong will play a pivotal role in the strategic development of Greater Bay Initiative.

Dr. Chen Hongtian said that cities in the Greater Bay Area have their own uniqueness. With an effective integration of resources, complementary systems, industries and human resources as well as enrichment from mutual learning, the city cluster in the Greater Bay Area will set a new height, with a concerted effort, to achieve a win-win. Meanwhile, the corporations in the Greater Bay Area will enter a new era of business development.

Last but not least, he emphasized that the 19th National Congress report specifically set the collaboration among Hong Kong, Macau and Pearl River Delta as the key element for Great Bay Area Initiative to promote mutual collaboration among Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau. He hoped that entrepreneurs from the Guangdong-HK-Macau Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union could seize the opportunities from the Great Bay Area, forge exchange and communication with government and business sector, drive technological innovation, facilitate collaboration among enterprises, achieve mutual benefits for Mainland banks and enterprises, as well as support youth entrepreneurship, charity and poverty alleviation to jointly contribute to the development of the initiative.
