Congratulations to Dr. Chen Hongtian for Being Awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star by the Chief Executive of HKSAR

The HKSAR Government published the "2020 Honours List" in the Government Gazette on October 1, 2020, with a total of 687 individuals being awarded by the Chief Executive. Dr. Chen Hongtian, a member of the CPPCC National Committee, a Justice of the Peace appointed by the HKSAR, Chairman of Harmony Club and Chairman of Cheung Kei Group, was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star. This commendation is in recognition of Dr. Chen's outstanding contributions to the society of Hong Kong over the years.


Dr. Chen Hongtian is a permanent resident of Hong Kong, a Justice of the Peace of Hong Kong (lifetime appointment), as well as the Honorary President, Honorary Chairman, President or Chairman of various large-scale associations and societies in Hong Kong. Dr. Chen is a patriotic individual who has always strived to contribute to Hong Kong's economic prosperity and social stability, through his active investments, provision of employment opportunities, facilitating meaningful exchanges between Hong Kong and the Mainland, social welfare, charity, and caring for the youth.

Dr. Chen Hongtian has always been deeply involved in Hong Kong affairs over the years, and he feels a strong sense of mission and responsibility as a CPPCC National Committee member from Hong Kong. Dr. Chen is committed to maintaining the social stability of Hong Kong, focusing on the welfare of the low-income population, and fostering interaction between Hong Kong and the Mainland. He has made outstanding contributions to public and social services, and is dedicated to many charitable causes, for the well-being of the community.

As the Chairman of Harmony Club, he has led the members of the Club in supporting the HKSAR Government to administer governance in accordance with the law. Dr. Chen has worked hard to build a platform for Hong Kong and Shenzhen entrepreneurs to communicate with each other, foster communication between government authorities and businesses, as well as between banks and businesses. His efforts in stimulating mutual support in the business community, and facilitating exchanges between Hong Kong and Shenzhen have won him rave reviews from the general public. He has also received numerous accolades, including the "Top 20 Influential Outstanding Persons" award at the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China in 2017.

Dr. Chen has also made charitable donations to many major organisations and institutions in Hong Kong, including the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment & Progress of Hong Kong, Basic Law Institute, and the Full Caring Foundation. These donations have contributed to providing local employment opportunities, poverty alleviation, support for policy research, maintaining Hong Kong's stability and care for the development of youths in Hong Kong. Dr. Chen has also served in leadership roles and different capacity for organisations in Hong Kong, including the Environmental Caring Charity of Hong Kong.

The spokesperson of the HKSAR Government commented that the honourees this year comes from all walks of life and distinct backgrounds, and they have made great contributions to Hong Kong in many areas, including public and social services, healthcare, charity, finance, the business sector, science and research, education, culture, the arts, sports, youth welfare, women's issues, racial harmony, and labour welfare. The award ceremony will be held this year, and the date will be set based on the prevailing social distancing measures.
