Cheung Kei Group Donated Three Charity Libraries to Promote the Development of Children Reading in Rural Areas

On January 9, 2018, Zhou Yang (Deputy Director of the HR Administration Center of Cheung Kei Group) participated in the event of the 10th Anniversaryof Heung Kong Charity Library and the China Reading Summit with the theme of “Ten-Year Charity Work, Walk Hand in Hand with Love" held at Guangzhou Baiyun International Conference Center on behalf of Cheung Kei Group.

In this event, Cheung Kei Group, under the leadership of Chairman Dr. Chen Hongtian, actively responded to the call of the Youth Concern Working Committee of Guangdong Province and the Heung Kong Charitable Foundation, and donated three charity libraries with a total cost of RMB240,000 for rural children so as to promote the Good Reading Co-creation Program. Cheung Kei Group fulfills its social responsibilities, promotes a positive spirit, cares for people and facilitates the developmentof children reading in rural areas.

About 600 guests of corporate executives and nonprofit organization representatives, such as Gu Xiulian (Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress and Director of the China Youth Concern Committee ), Yan Jingping (Chairman of Guangdong Women's Federation), YangJinlin (a renowned media worker and the founder of Zhejiang Jinlin Charity Foundation), Wang Ming (Dean of the Charity Institute of Tsinghua University), Liu Zhiqiang (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Heung Kong Group), and Zhai Meiqing (Chairwoman of Heung Kong Charitable Foundation and President of Heung Kong Group), gathered together to discuss how to upgrade charity activities related to reading.

In order to comprehensively promote children reading, implement the plan of promoting the integrated development of compulsory education in urban andrural areas that was proposed at the 19th National Congress, and focus on making up for the gap in reading between urban and rural children, the Youth Concern Working Committee of Guangdong Province and the Heung Kong Charitable Foundation jointly initiated the "Good Reading Co-creation Program", hoping to share the experience in library establishment with various industries and philanthropreneurs so that more social resources can be pulled into library establishment in rural areas.

The "Good Reading Co-creation Program" suggested making RMB80,000 as the standard to help build a library which can meet the reading needs of children in rural areas in the new era. The Heung Kong Charitable Foundation will provide participants with library construction and the follow-up operational services and management related services.

The Certificate of Honor

At the Charity Library Donation Ceremony, Deputy Director Zhou Yang, on behalf of Cheung Kei Group, accepted the Honorary Certificate of Philanthropreneur awarded by the organizer.

Over the years, Cheung Kei Group has been concerned about the education of the motherland and has assisted impoverished students. It has also been enthusiastic about public welfare and donated a total of approximately HKD300 million to various public welfare undertakings and progressive groups. Asfor helping impoverished students and facilitating education, Cheung Kei Group has made donations to well-known universities across the country, secondary schools and primary schools, covering Beijing, Guangdong, Liaoning, Tibet, Xinjiang and other places. Cheung Kei Group has made many donations, for example, the Group has donated more than RMB9.5 million to Jiujiang Middle School in Nanhai District of Foshan City; and it has donated more than RMB26 million to the University of International Business and Economics. Adhering to the spirit of benevolence, Cheung Kei Group will continue to actively fulfill its social responsibilities as a corporate citizen and care for the next generation to ensure their healthy growth.
